Analog and Digital

analog-digital

Working with others when you do not know them, their backgrounds and have never met

Today’s problems and issues are complex. To solve them we need to cross borders across professions, languages and cultures. There is no simple way. Technically this may seem easy. I agree. What many of us do not consider is that the users of technology are people. We need to work together!

Collaboration in a digital workplace requires us to learn how to work together without knowing what we understand with all our senses when we meet in person.

Developing ideas into solution requires critical thinking.

How do you tell someone that your idea, approach or solution might be a better choice without hurting this person’s feeling and then win them to build on existing ideas and knowledge together?

At the #3CityCreathon in Berlin, Bratislava and Rome participants were able to train this :

  • Selling your ideas in only 3 minutes – Elevator Pitches
  • Give feedback in a form that can be accepted
  • Digital communication between three cities

This combination between digital communication and analog collaboration developing an idea in teams is the digital workplace of the future present.

A perfect illustration for the eSkills conference in Bratislava where 200 policy makers, business leaders and experts discussed how digital technologies are transforming our lives at a pace never seen before.

Many thanks to all participants, organizers, decision makers, jury members, experts and our digital audience.

If the spark has reached you and you are eager to run a creathon or hackathon yourself, contact your local NetAcad contact.

Until next time

Inspirational Regards

Jutta

Digital Transformation and Skills in Europe

Joining forces is the only way to approach this challenge

skills-you-need-netacadOur daily lives become more digital every day. The global marketplace requires all countries, cities and companies to make use of the technology and digital tools we have at our fingertips to improve the systems we use to run our economies, business and lives for more societal benefit for everyone.

This does not only sound difficult, it is difficult and complex.

The only way we can start to understand this challenge is by separating the different levels of society affected and looking at the details of each dimension and the related problems:

  • Country
  • City
  • Company
  • Citizen

Drilling down to the details allows us to understand that these changes affect all levels of our society. This is involving all of us: all professions, all citizens from the youngest to the oldest, for all cultures and all backgrounds. We need the competences, skills and abilities of every single one of us to go through these challenges.

hands-and-brainThe key to mastering lies in our education and continued education systems. The key to get through (every type of) change is learning new skills.

Digital Skills

The European Union and the OECD define the key competences for life-long learning:

  • Critical thinking
  • Communication
  • Problem solving
  • Collaboration

Creating learning spaces where those skills can be developed are on top of the mind of leaders. Innovative Educators engage and learn together with their students, business partners, tech experts and public stakeholders. It involves

  • collaboration of education, businesses and public institutions,/li>
  • bridges and spaces to connect ideas and work together,
  • openness and respect for each other with all our experiences.

Europe in the Digital era
where skills are making the difference

On 17th and 18th October 2016, more than 200 policy makers, business leaders and experts meet to exchange thoughts on how Europe will handle the challenges transforming our lives at a pace never seen before.

In parallel to the conference Cisco Networking Academy offers a unique interactive opportunity and concrete illustration of how technology can make a positive impact by organizing a two-day Multi-country Digitization Creathon for Social Innovation in Bratislava, Berlin and Rome in partnership with MakeSense.

In this Creathon Students come together in 3 cities and work in teams to create solution concepts with strong social and/or environmental impact.

For the 1st time this #3CityCreathon is open to the public

Media Zone at Kindercity

“I wished that this kind of introduction to technology would have been there when I was that age.”

Congratulation to Kindercity – Sandrine and Jean Christophe Gostanian for their exceptional concept and implementation of the new Media Zone at Kindercity

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA kindercity_1_01

What is the Kindercity?

Kindercity is the place to visit for playing with science. It is a perfect combination of fun and knowledge for children of all ages.  Sandrine and Jean Christophe Gostanian have been able to run the Kindercity as a private organization, which is very admirable. They advocate for STEM skill education and focus on early childhood understanding of technology and natural sciences. Today the Kindercity stands on its 6’000 square meters with around 250,000 visitors per year.

What is the Media Zone?

The inauguration of the Kindercity Media Zone opened the world of learning about Networking and Communication. The Internet and its good and bad actor are introduced in a very simple way so that understanding is guaranteed. When you think about how to explain the Internet to a child who has been using the Internet and mobile phones with Internet Access for his or her entire life, it becomes clear that this is not such an easy task.

How did they do this?

They had help. Help from young apprentices from companies in the region supporting the Kindercity initiatives and activities.  As such both sides were able to learn – they share their knowledge with children of all ages and learn how to explain technical topics like automation, robotics, energy and computing in an understandable way suited for their target group.

Kindercity is the newest member of the Cisco Networking Academy in Switzerland.
Welcome in our program!

Cisco Switzerland supported the Media Zone exhibition with Internet Highway equipment. If you are interested in working with Kindercity or experience it as an innovative event location, Sandrine and Jean Christophe are always looking for more partners.

Passion is the new currency

Meet young people with passion, loving what they do – get inspired and find your passion and future profession

Skills and Talent

THE FEELING OF DOING SOMETHING WITH PASSION CAN NOT BE BEATEN BY ANYTHING.

It is not an easy task these days selecting a profession or choosing an educational pathway. Professions our parents knew disappear and new professions are created.

The questions: What am I made for? What do I want to do in my future professional life? is a real challenge for many. The answers to these questions have to come from within.

In many fields there is a lack of skilled talent and at the same time a continuously growing part of our young generation are without employment.  A paradox situation.

I am very happy to have had the opportunity to meet young people who have found their passion in a technical topic and are already becoming the future experts today. Where can you meet them?

In more and more countries in Europe … at competitions, initiatives, events and programs like …

Many schools and educational organizations ARE PART in these programs and initiatives

First step: Visit and take a look into the professional world of the future.

Through Volunteering you can meet cool young people like yourself, who found their passion already.

It does pay off, to check this out. In any case there is nothing to loose.
