Theme: Urban Living - sharing and caring

I had the pleasure to get to know the teams and their projects. Here is a short glimpse into the IoE Solutions that are in the process of being born:

Layer8

Layer 8

Layer 8

The team is creating a smart, cloud based pill dispenser that makes life easier for patients, doctors and insurances. Quite a challenging idea with a need for cooperation with different stakeholders. Challenging also for IT students who are in need of medical and mechanical knowledge for the implementing their project.

PlantNet

PlantNet

PlantNet

The solution being developed is a monitor for parameters critical to plant development and well-being. There are similar products on the market already but PlantNet will consist of a platform, an app and community where exchange of information as well as teaching and learning can happen. This taps into the urban gardening culture in Berlin where it is trendy for bankers to go to an after work gardening party.

The Fast for the Tourists

Smarter Transport Tasks Force

Smarter Transport Tasks Force

This application collects information about tourist locations and connects them through the interest and wish of tourist in your city. It should also have a function to determine capacity of the locations to distribute visitors in your city more efficiently. The business model is based on the win-win situation created for tourist locations, the city and the tourists.

NoPe (No Pollution)

NoPe

NoPe

Smart trash containers. But the team specialized on the particular situation of mobile installations, fairs, exhibitions and concerts where network connectivity, theft, vandalism plays a role. Through an integration with social media people who do clean up are being rewarded for their actions. This is something I would love to see on my next concert.

Smarter Transport Tasks Force

The fast for the tourists

The fast for the tourists

They are developing a system that is monitoring the number of people in transport unit for better distribution plus additional benefits for public transport operators, users and city governments.

Pimp my road

Pimp my road

Pimp my road

All of the team members grew up in big cities and they hate to stand in traffic jams. Their application is aiming to optimize traffic in cities and they want to use sensors for real-time measurement of traffic movement.
>>> the group later changed their name and project to “Heavy Breathing”

Marc and Eugene Advice Before
Last Advice from Marc & Eugene – Hackathon moderators

Speaking with Marc and Eugene just before the official start

Jutta: Marc, you and Eugene have a lot of Hackathon experience between the two of you already. Were they all the same or can you explain us what was different?

Eugene: Yes, we did Hackathons in Milan, Helsinki, Brussels, Hamburg.  Every hackathon is different though – it is a one-of-a-kind event. The difference stems from the group of students you work with, the education system they come from, age difference, study focus. In some place participants worked more independently, in other there was more coaching from their instructor involved.

Marc: In Brussels for example, there was a large number of experts available and the participants were not only IT students but also came from business and design studies. This changes the dynamic a lot. A second point is that the theme varies because we want the theme to be locally significant which again influences everything.

Jutta: What would you say is the key element tell the participants to watch out for participants?

Marc and Eugene: Sure, here is our advice

  1. Collaboration is absolute key – not everybody knows everything but the knowledge of all people in the team is huge and will make the difference for your project
  2. Use your resources – the experts and the Internet are great resources for you whenever there is a questions
  3. The first idea is not always the best – look beyond the normal horizons and do not let your predefined thinking parameters limit your creativity

Be open to try a disruptive approach and follow hints from advisers and experts fostering thinking outside the box.

WTF is a Hackathon

#AlleHelfenJetzt @eskills4jobs @eskillsgrowthEU #DigitalVenice @CiscoEMEAR @Cisco_Germany

The last days before the NetAcad Hackathon in Berlin

#CLEur #CLHackathon #netacad

Logbook: These are the last days before the NetAcad Hackathon from 15. – 17.2.2016 at OSZ IMT in Berlin

See the world as it can be …  rather than as it is.

This is how you can describe the a Hackathon:

A group of young talents from OSZ IMT, G18 Hamburg and MMBbS Hannover decided to spend 3 days together to think about ideas and solutions, usually for a certain purposes, using their IT skills and competencies to create, shape, design and prototype solutions.

Osz_imt

Guided by experts from diverse disciplines following stations are ahead

  • Inspiration – brainstorming social challenges, identifying issues to solve
  • Ideation – understanding the problem to address, modelling ideas in teams
  • Consolidation – deep dive on the proposed solution with expert checkpoints
  • Prototyping – implement, tinker, adapt

It is great to part of the process when a group of people with an open mind take on this journey with all its highs and lows. These will be 3 days you will never forget … the results are always amazing.

The ideas will be presented – pitched – in front of more than 700 people, the visitors at the Cisco Live Academy Day on the 18.2.2016 at the CityCube Berlin.

We are looking forward to the starting signal !
