“Very intensive Day – fascinating”
from Rome

“Really appreciate that we were able to meet people from different backgrounds, to learn what other people think about our topics. Perfect opportunity.”
from Bratislava

“Input and Output in only a few hours, very interesting ideas. I feel connected even though we only have video cameras connecting us.”

You have 200 volunteers

… how would you solve your problem?

whatsapp-image-2016-10-17-at-18-35-11It is not an easy task to collect ideas, from the best to the worst ideas … brainstorming is not simple.

It is really important to go for quantities of ideas first. There are about 3000 raw ideas needed to get one successful product or service.

Tomorrow at about 11:00 the idea pitching to the jury sitting in our three locations Berlin, Bratislava and Rome is on the agenda.

We are inviting everyone to join us in this connect moment and share their thoughts, ideas and questions you might have.

Feel free to forward the invitation to your network – your neighbour, your family, your friends, your colleagues … and of course, your mailman.

We support the cultural change digital transformation is driving and want to make sure that sustainability and social benefit for all parts of our society are always part of the plan.

Inspiration : Ideation : Consolidation : Prototyping

On day II prototyping starts with opening the box and getting the gear out – sensors, arduinos, more sensors …

Theme: Urban Living - sharing and caring

I had the pleasure to get to know the teams and their projects. Here is a short glimpse into the IoE Solutions that are in the process of being born:

Layer8

Layer 8

Layer 8

The team is creating a smart, cloud based pill dispenser that makes life easier for patients, doctors and insurances. Quite a challenging idea with a need for cooperation with different stakeholders. Challenging also for IT students who are in need of medical and mechanical knowledge for the implementing their project.

PlantNet

PlantNet

PlantNet

The solution being developed is a monitor for parameters critical to plant development and well-being. There are similar products on the market already but PlantNet will consist of a platform, an app and community where exchange of information as well as teaching and learning can happen. This taps into the urban gardening culture in Berlin where it is trendy for bankers to go to an after work gardening party.

This application collects information about tourist locations and connects them through the interest and wish of tourist in your city. It should also have a function to determine capacity of the locations to distribute visitors in your city more efficiently. The business model is based on the win-win situation created for tourist locations, the city and the tourists.

Through an integration with social media people who do clean up are being rewarded for their actions. This is something I would love to see on my next concert.

They are developing a system that is monitoring the number of people in transport unit for better distribution plus additional benefits for public transport operators, users and city governments.

All of the team members grew up in big cities and they hate to stand in traffic jams. Their application is aiming to optimize traffic in cities and they want to use sensors for real-time measurement of traffic movement.

The last days before the NetAcad Hackathon in Berlin

#CLEur #CLHackathon #netacad

Logbook: These are the last days before the NetAcad Hackathon from 15. – 17.2.2016 at OSZ IMT in Berlin

See the world as it can be …  rather than as it is.

This is how you can describe the a Hackathon:

A group of young talents from OSZ IMT, G18 Hamburg and MMBbS Hannover decided to spend 3 days together to think about ideas and solutions, usually for a certain purposes, using their IT skills and competencies to create, shape, design and prototype solutions.

Osz_imt

Guided by experts from diverse disciplines following stations are ahead

  • Inspiration – brainstorming social challenges, identifying issues to solve
  • Ideation – understanding the problem to address, modelling ideas in teams
  • Consolidation – deep dive on the proposed solution with expert checkpoints
  • Prototyping – implement, tinker, adapt

It is great to part of the process when a group of people with an open mind take on this journey with all its highs and lows. These will be 3 days you will never forget … the results are always amazing.

The ideas will be presented – pitched – in front of more than 700 people, the visitors at the Cisco Live Academy Day on the 18.2.2016 at the CityCube Berlin.

We are looking forward to the starting signal !

Seriously, why do we need a Digital Agenda?

IoE and IoT are acronyms that are familiar to me – when I use them with friends and family, they have a big question mark on their face (I learned how to read question marks on faces during my time teaching at universities in Japan.).

The Internet of Things (IoT) is the network of physical objects or “things” embedded with electronics, software, sensors, and network connectivity, which enables these objects to collect and exchange data.

The fact is that there are lots of those networks of connected physical objects already out there
– list of countries by IoT devices online per 100 inhabitants

IoTDevicesOnline

… and they estimate that more than 30 billion devices will be wirelessly connected to the Internet of Things by 2020!

That is why we need a digital agenda – we need to make sure that this growing number of networks are reliable and secure.

Are you involved in the study, management, development and implementation of systems and concepts to combat information warfare?

Are you working on improving information systems security?arminSimma

Pitching Ideas

#IoECreathon #eskills #netacad #IoE @CiscoNetAcad

The IoE Creathon for Social Good was organized in Riga in parallel to the eSkills Conference on March 12th and 13th. It is a kind of hackathon (48 hours of intense work from an idea to a prototype) open to all students from all background with all types of competences.

It is an event that stimulates creativity and innovation, using new tools and methods, fostering and fueling creativity in everybody (organizers, helpers, partners and jury included) involved.

Students worked in teams and had to come up with ideas – in a very very short amount of time !! – where the innovative use of technology enhances public services. The event lasted 1,5 days. The end of the competition was a 5 minute pitch explaining their projects aiming to convince jury members that their idea is the best.

The Teams

Impatient team
Long waiting queue for medical specialists in Latvia sparked the idea of a screening device to collect data about your health status with sensors so you can know when you really need to go to the doctor.

Moodwatch
Lonelyness is something we all know, but it is also a feeling we are able to track and possibly manage. People with Moodwatch can mentor others and get mentored by other when one feels lonely.

Volt
solves the question: How can we help people who need help in their daily life? by creating local networks of volunteers and professionals who come and help you with tasks at hand.

Something from nothing
aims to create electricity from used water to help overcome the energy crisis in rural India. As a community owned initiative the produced electricity is used to light one room per house.

The jury

  • Giuseppe Cinque – our Netacad IoE product manager
  • Davis Plotnieks- head of a Latvian Social Business Incubator
  • Janis Grabis – head of the RTU IT department and
  • Leo Truksans – Netacad instructor and head of the IT department at University of Latvia

The judging criteria were the level of innovation of the project, the economic viability, the potential positive impact on society and the quality of the presentation.

Talent – IoE Ideas – Connection

A few impressions from our Partner Talent Connection event at Cisco Stockholm

fullHouse   workgroup pres1 workgroup pres2   partner speed dating

We started with a brief Introduction to the Internet of Everything IoE followed by a workshop breaking up in several groups discussing IoE ideas – the most often mentioned ideas circled around solutions for the traffic in Stockholm. It was inspiring to see how young Networking Academy students took the opportunity to present their ideas in front of the auditorium. It was a great experience to be part of this connection formed between all participants and the Cisco Partners involved.

Cisco Sweden is determined to do more: a partnership with SUP46 – Stockholm’s home for entrepreneurs – and Dreamhack – a Hackathon for games – are a proof that going beyond traditional learning formats is building the skills industry needs.

We want to thank more than 70 of you to come and meet the Cisco Sweden team and our partenrs ATEA AB, TDC Sverige AB, Cygate ABNetwork services and Commsec in our Stockholm office.
